ACC Aviation sees strong second quarter charter demand

ACC Aviation, the charter broker and consultancy, saw strong demand for charter in the second quarter of 2022.

The company, which was launched in 2002, originally specialized in arranging short-term wet leases (where aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance are included) for airlines – often at the last minute. In June business aviation accounted for half of its business. Some of the demand came from airlines using business jets to move crews and parts around.

“Charter flight bookings were up 30% in Q2 compared with the same period in 2021 – on both sides of the Atlantic,”said Richard Smith, director of charter, ACC Aviation.

Rez Selman joined the company in April as senior account manager from Qatar Executive.

During Q2, we saw last-minute bookings becoming the norm,” said Jamie Harris, President Americas, ACC Aviation. Harris says that they also arranged business jet flights to move cruise ship crews.

“The private jet terminals that host executive jets were less impacted by workforce issues, so on some occasions, we dispatched three 30-seat regional jets versus a 100-seater to help avoid main terminals,” said Smith.

ACC says that it saw strong demand for sports charters with A320 and B737s. It has also started marketing a VIP 757.

The company was founded by Chris Clapham in Reigate,2002 and acquired by private equity firm YFM Equity Partners in 2014. Clapham joined employees for a 20-year anniversary party in June 2022.
