AEG Fuels launches global SAF Network for operators

Florida-based AEG Fuels has rolled out a digital network which will allow aircraft operators, including business jets, to access Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at more than 20 locations worldwide.

Through the company’s existing fuel platform, which is available on AEG’s website and via their mobile application, operators can see where SAF fuel is available and gain instant refueling authorisation or request SAF from a 24/7 fuel dispatch and international trip planning team.

Stephen J. Leonard, vice president of global supply, AEG Fuels told Corporate Jet Investor (CJI) that the network will make it easier to buy SAF. Leonard said: Our industry has been focused on increasing SAF production and increasing the number of airports where SAF is available. Our aim at AEG was to ensure there was a simple way to have visibility to what currently exists and reduce customers’ barriers to entry for participating in SAF.”

As a result, he said AEG wanted to build more transparency and “give operators the same tools that they [already] have to manage their conventional fuel but for SAF”.

Through the platform, operators can also pay a premium for SAF to be delivered to another aircraft at a different location without contributing to excess emissions through AEG’s Book and Claim facility.

Leonard explained that while the integration of SAF into fuel budgets is primarily voluntary he believed operators who are “committed to being ahead of the regulatory and cost curve” will use the platform for Book and Claim transactions. He said: “The Book and Claim offering is going to be one of the most important ways that SAF supply continues to come online, because it’s connecting ready buyers with ready allocation of fuel and it’s reducing the carbon emissions from increased logistics costs.”

Marc Ramthun, director of sales, Business Aviation, AEG Fuels, told CJI that willingness to use SAF is there, but it’s been difficult to use until now. “People want to be on the forefront of using SAF. Everyone’s talked about using it, but no one knew where to go,” Ramthun said. “We’ve simplified that into one platform, and I think this is probably one of the single biggest things to help the adoption of SAF in the aviation industry.”
