Bombardier Challenger 3500 enters service

Bombardier’s Challenger 3500 business jet has entered service, destined for delivery to its launch customer.

The latest evolution in the Challenger model combines reliability and best-in-class operating costs, according to the Montreal-based company. The jet has a 3,400nm range and will fly at Mach 0.83, making it almost as fast as Bombardier’s quickest business jet, the Global 8000.

It will keep the engines and performance of its predecessor, the Challenger 350, but will lower its cabin-pressure altitude to enhance comfort.

The aircraft also offers the industry’s first voice-controlled cabin to manage lighting, temperature and entertainment systems.

“Customers are impressed by the aircraft’s elevated experience, from the comfort and sustainability of its cabin to cost efficiency and reliability,” said Éric Martel, president and CEO, Bombardier. “And our teams have done an amazing job delivering this aircraft to market in less than a year since it was launched.”

Bombardier says the aircraft is the first business jet in the super mid-size segment to have an environmental product declaration published, which documents the jet’s carbon footprint over its lifecycle.

The Challenger 3500 will be on static display in Orlando, Florida at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Business Aviation Convention Exhibition 2022. The first delivery will go to launch customer Les Goldberg, chairman and CEO of Technology Entertainment Partners.

The Canadian OEM recently reported that it delivered 28 aircraft in the second quarter (Q2) of this year, just one fewer than Q2 2021, with an ever-increasing backlog of $14.7bn which was a 37% rise year on year.

Back in May, Bombardier launched the Global 8000, its fastest business jet so far.
