Bombardier has revealed the service debut of its long-range Global 5500, powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl engines and equipped with a new wing design.
Delivered recently to an undisclosed customer, the Global 5500 is said to have the longest range and the largest cabin in its class, while delivering the smoothest ride. Capable of a range of 5,900 nautical miles (10,928 km), the aircraft can connect Sao Paulo to Paris or Los Angeles to Moscow non-stop at a top speed of M0.90. The model’s optimised wing is said to ensure the smoothest ride.
As business aviation starts to pick up around the world, the Global 5500 is an ideal choice for customers who are looking to move into the large-cabin category, a spokeswoman told Corporate Jet Investor. “This aircraft offers an intercontinental range that is best-in-class, and its cabin is ideal for long flights with three spacious living areas appointed with the sought-after Nuage seating collection, and the smoothest ride.” Bombardier describes its patented Nuage seat as the first new seat architecture in business aviation in 30 years.
Allergens, bacteria and viruses
The Global 5500 aircraft’s 4K-enabled cabin is said to offer the fastest in-flight connectivity, and a cabin management system delivers an ultra-high-definition entertainment experience. The range is also equipped with an exclusive air purification system known as Bombardier Pũr Air. The system’s high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter is claimed to capture up to 99.99% of allergens, bacteria and viruses, and completely replaces the cabin air with 100% fresh air in as little as one-and-a-half minutes.
“Business aviation is understandably appealing as passengers seek to avoid crowds and protect their health, and Bombardier is glad to have a diverse fleet of aircraft to help businesses get back on their feet in a safe and time-efficient manner,” the spokeswoman told Corporate Jet Investor.

Powered by Rolls-Royce Pearl engines, the aircraft is faster, with a longer range than its predecessor the Global 5000 aircraft, but it’s also quieter with a fuel burn claimed to be 13% more efficient. “The Pearl 15 engine is the most efficient engine core available across the business aviation sector,” according to the company. “Despite delivering up to 9% more thrust during take-off than the previous-generation BR710, this engine is two decibels quieter and operators will benefit from a 7% improvement in specific fuel consumption.”
