The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) board of directors met in Perdido Beach, Alabama, prior to the CCTMC conference in early April. In addition to other business, the board approved bylaw changes, a new mission and vision, and reaccreditations of 14 medical transport operators.

Bylaw Changes and New Mission and Vision

During the meeting, the board approved changes to the current bylaws and adopted a new mission and vision. CAMTS’ values and transport accredited services’ expectations did not change. With the focus on out-of-hospital care and not only on medical transport, CAMTS changed the mission and vision as follows:

MISSION: CAMTS is a peer review organization dedicated to improving patient care and safety by providing a dynamic accreditation process through the development of standards, education, and services that support our vision. 

VISION: All patients receive appropriate and safe out-of-hospital care by qualified professionals.

CAMTS reaccredited 14 transportation services across the United States.

• Boston Children’s Hospital, a surface service provider in Boston, Massachusetts.
• Carilion Clinic Patient Transportation, a rotorwing service in Roanoke, Virginia.
• Children’s Mercy Critical Care Transport, a rotorwing, fixed wing, and surface service provider in Kansas City, Missouri.
• Flight For Life, a rotorwing service in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
• Gundersen Air, a rotorwing service in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
• Lehigh Valley MedEvac, a rotorwing and surface service in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
• LifeFlight Eagle, a rotorwing service in Kansas City, Missouri.
• LifeLink III, a rotorwing and fixed wing service in in Bloomington, Minnesota.
• Pediatric and Neonatal Doernbecher (PANDA), a rotorwing, fixed wing, and surface service provider in Portland, Oregon.
• San Juan Regional AirCare, a rotorwing and fixed wing service in Farmington, New Mexico.
• Sunrise Air Ambulance, a rotorwing and fixed wing service in Show Low, Arizona.
• UCAN, a rotorwing and surface service provider in Chicago, Illinois. 
• UNC Carolina Air Care, a rotorwing, fixed wing, and ground service specializing in ALS and BLS in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. 

Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) 

Dr. Victoria Steinhartz was introduced as the new ad hoc board member representing Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) at the meeting. Copies of the MIH standards were distributed and it was announced that applications for MIH accreditation will be available by the first quarter of 2023 for MIH programs.

Ralph Rogers Leadership Scholarship

CAMTS awarded Cody Jackson, a flight paramedic at the Marion, Virginia, base of the Highlands Emergency Air Rescue and Transport (HEART) program the Ralph N. Rogers, MD Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to an individual for leadership development, based on need, to encourage growth of future leaders in the medical transport industry.

Jackson is the lead instructor for the Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program and recently earned his master’s in health science degree from the Western Carolina University. He used his scholarship to attend AAMS’s Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) in April. 

Quality Management 2021 Year-End Report
