Embraer has partnered with Brazilian energy company Raízen to improve the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Brazil. Embraer is the first and only aviation business to work with the energy supplier.
The two companies signed a Letter of Intent yesterday, with a commitment to “stimulate the development of the SAF production ecosystem”. Embraer said the partnership will help it reach the goal of having SAF blends representing 100% of its fuel consumption in Brazil by 2030. With more than 60% of the emissions in Embraer’s operations coming from the use of traditional aviation fuel, Embraer said the switch to SAF will help neutralise its carbon footprint by 2040.
Carlos Alberto Giner, vice president of People, ESG and Communications, Embraer, said: “SAF plays a key role in reducing aviation emissions in the short and medium term. Therefore, this agreement aims to stimulate the growth and sustainability of the value chain as a whole.”
Antonio Cardoso, vice president of Marketing and Services at Raízen said: “As the largest sugarcane ethanol producer in the world, it is only natural that we are looking at a possible supply of SAF.” He added: “This partnership with Embraer, a global reference, reinforces the sustainability agenda and expansion of the company’s portfolio.”
In May, Embraer announced its target of 100% of the electricity acquired by the company in Brazil coming from renewable sources from 2024.
