GlobeAir commits to sustainable future

GlobeAir has introduced a new Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) programme, placing sustainability as one of the company’s long-term goals.

Based in Salzburg, Austria, GlobeAir operates a fleet of 20 Cessna Citation Mustang Very Light Jets (VLJ). In 2019 it operated 9,254 flights, carrying a total of 11,489 passengers.

Under the slogan #WeArePlanetA, GlobeAir’s customers will now be able to offset the carbon emissions produced when chartering a business jet.

“We can’t ignore the fact that our actions have a direct impact on the planet,” says Bernhard Fragner, CEO, GlobeAir. “As a private jet operator, we are conscious of the status of the environment and committed to doing our part. #WeArePlanetA is our journey towards tackling the sustainability discourse at GlobeAir,”

The company has partnered with Swiss-based company carbon connect (NOTE: Lower case) to offer GlobeAir’s clients two different cabin offsetting options.

The first is the one Forest Conservation Project in Brazil, the second is a combustible mine-gas degassing project in Germany. GlobeAir says that its customers will be able to choose which project their carbon offsetting will contribute to.

The carbon offsetting can be done at the time of booking a flight, with GlobeAir saying that it will issue ‘certificates of engagement’ to those passengers who choose to offset their carbon. Passengers will also receive a yearly update on the projects that they have chosen to support.

The Austrian operator also says that it will ‘align’ itself with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. This involves the company adopting the use of Sustainable Jet Fuel (SAF), plastic-free aircraft cabin and cockpits, as well as educating its crews on sustainability.
