HeliControl succeeds beyond its Hungarian roots

The Olectics brothers founded HeliControl Kft. in 2011 with the goal of providing maintenance and parts supply to rotary wing operators in Hungary. With an initial team trained in Germany, they were soon completing 144-month overhauls on Airbus helicopters and providing overall aircraft refurbishment as their approvals were extended to structural airframe repairs.

HeliControl entertained the possibility that their customer base might one day expand beyond Hungary’s borders, but the company’s growth was fueled by interest from unexpected sources. HeliControl soon found helicopter owners from Austria and Switzerland at their doors. Contrary to management’s expectations that foreign customers would come from former socialist countries, they came from the developed West instead. Year after year, clients from Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Lithuania were knocking hard on the doors of their hangar.

HeliControl has always prided itself on the quality of its work and its commitment to meeting deadlines. The company is also dedicated to ensuring that, busy as they are, HeliControl mechanics receive the appropriate training on the growing list of aircraft types for which the company is licensed to provide service.

With a growing workforce and a growing number of work stations in its first five years, HeliControl concentrated on overhauls. The company soon received a contract for the overhaul of two AS350 aircrafts operated by the Hungarian Defense Forces and completed the first NVG compatible helicopter in a state-approved procedure.

HeliControl achieved a significant milestone when it had the opportunity to perform maintenance for a helicopter belonging to the Austrian Ministry of the Interior. HeliControl management described the contract as a turning point at which they realized that “anything new, anything good can happen.”

Over time, HeliControl management’s interest in the special-capability configuration of helicopters led to the establishment of a separate department for the management of administrational tasks and acquisition. In this new capacity, HeliControl signed an agreement of representation with Trakka Systems. They have since completed specialized work in surveillance and border control and expanded to the development of helicopter emergency medical systems.

With its continuing growth and continued commitment to training its mechanics, HeliControl committed to the construction of a new building and the expansion of their training services as a European Union Aviation Safety Agency PART-147 Organization in November 2019. The ribbon on a new hangar was cut in September 2021 and plans for an additional expansion are already in the works.

Reflecting upon the company’s remarkable success in the last decade, HeliControl management describes the process as “skiing uphill on a black slope” and a “delight.”
