Signature Aviation has received the highest environmental certification for its Vail Valley Jet Center FBO in Colorado.
The certification, awarded by the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), has not yet been awarded to any other company globally, according to Signature.
The facility has removed 678 metric tonnes of CO2 annually from Colorado as a result of electrification of ground vehicles, using biodiesel and adapting heating and lighting systems to be more energy efficient.
Signature electrified more than 50% of the location’s ground service vehicle fleet, added two electric vehicle charging stations for public use, procured six new fuel trucks powered by biodiesel for $1.9m and bought some of the industry’s first electric powered fuel trucks. The FBO also installed new heating, ventilation and air conditioning interlocks on 11 hangars to pause climate controls when the doors and open and replaced almost 600 traditional lightbulbs with LED bulbs.
“This certification is a bold step towards becoming a truly sustainable business which includes our organisation’s goals for carbon neutrality,” said Paul Gordon, president and general manager, Signature Aviation Vail Valley Jet Center. “Through our partnership with NATA and the Eagle County Regional Airport, we’ve been able to realise a meaningful impact right here in the Colorado Rockies.”
Earlier in the year, the company introduced a permanent supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the Eagle County Regional Airport near Vail, Colorado.
In 2020, Signature committed to net-zero by 2050, including a 29% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2025 and a 50% reduction by 2030.
