StandardAero acquires Western Jet Aviation

StandardAero has acquired business jet maintenance firm Western Jet Aviation to expand its MRO offerings on the US West Coast. The sale marks StandardAero’s 12th acquisition in seven years.

Gulfstream maintenance specialists Western Jet Aviation are headquartered at Van Nuys, California airport. The firm also has a facility located at Miami-Opa Locka, Florida Executive Airport.

Western Jet Aviation’s broad range of business aviation MRO capabilities expands our facility footprint, customer base, geographic reach and repair portfolio to facilitate continuing growth for StandardAero,” said Russell Ford, chairman and CEO, StandardAero.

The Californian company brings an additional 120,000sqft (1115sqm) of hangar, shop and office space to StandardAero, along with a team of around 100 employees.  StandardAero said it is its first acquisition that focuses on airframe and non-engine work in recent history.

The firm offers a range of maintenance services for business aviation clients, including airframe inspections, engine troubleshooting and repair, part sales and major structural repairs.  Its avionics install shop in Van Nuys also serves most business jets, with services ranging from cockpit and cabin management system upgrades to connectivity installations and annual certifications.

Western Jet Aviation’s founder, Jim Hansen, who led the company for more than 20 years, said that after 50 years in aviation, it was time for him to “pass the reins” to others.

We have accomplished so much at Western Jet, but it was also time to find the right partner to help Western Jet go to the next level,” he said. “StandardAero is the perfect partner to help this company do just that.  I am thrilled for the employees and for the future of this company.”
