Whisper Aero unveiled the first electric tow behind blower powered by its proprietary WhisperDrive technology
The blower delivers 250N (newton) performance while operating under 65 dBA (decibels). The product is targeted at golf course cleanup, landscape management tasks, highway debris removal and other large-scale maintenance efforts.
“By integrating 10 WhisperDrive fans into one powerful yet quiet unit, we’ve created a concept that redefines what’s possible in outdoor power equipment,” said Andrew Terajewicz, head of Product at Whisper Aero. “Our goal is to collaborate with manufacturers, providing the WhisperDrive technology to develop their own next-generation products that meet both performance demands and regulatory requirements.”
Whisper says there is a clear need for quieter professional-grade blowers across the US. Localities, cities, and states are implementing stricter noise ordinances, limiting outdoor power equipment to operating below 65 dBA. Traditional fuel-powered blowers far exceed these limits, whilst existing battery-powered alternatives often lack the power and runtime required for large-scale tasks.
The handheld leaf blower Whisper unveiled last year proved it was possible to move 40% more air, with 40% less power, and at 16 dBA less than other handheld electric alternatives. The team then went back to the drawing board to see if integrating distributed electric propulsion could unlock a transformative product.
The result of Whisper’s efforts is an electric tow behind blower combining the power of ten professional leaf blowers into one machine using a ten-fan array. Whisper now plans to license the WhisperDrive technology and design to OEMs, allowing them to modify the number of fans and performance parameters.
Whisper will showcase its tow behind blower powered at the 2024 OPEI Equip Exposition, held October 15-18 in Louisville, Kentucky.
