The American Helicopter Museum and Education Center (AHMEC) offers holiday cheer throughout the season beginning with Flight School Friday on Friday, Nov. 25, and ending with an O-gauge train display through New Year’s.
Two exciting workshops for children ages 6 through 12 occur on Friday, Nov. 25. The first, “Why Things Fly,” from 9 a.m. until noon, is a hands-on workshop that explores the four forces of flight through interactive presentations and demonstrations. Then, from 1 until 4 pm, “Drones in the Sky” explores the fascinating world of drones during which students have the chance to pilot these amazing vehicles. Additionally, the “Star Trek Screen-Used Props and Costumes” exhibit that opened in early September closes on Sunday, Nov. 27. This unique collection of screen-used and production-made artifacts spans decades and encompasses costumes, weapons, communicators, even pieces of the starship Enterprise! A delight for hard-core Trekkies and casual fans alike, this once-in-a-lifetime exhibit is a chance to peer behind the curtain and see some of the most iconic props from the Star Trek universe.

More trains follow on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3 and 4, when the East Penn Traction Club, a group of 300 enthusiasts throughout the Delaware Valley and Philadelphia region, displays and operates some of its O-gauge (1:48 scale) and HO-gauge traveling layouts of trolleys in the Museum Model Room and answers questions.
AHMEC’s annual SantaFest happens on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. with Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving at 11 a.m. Crafts, activities, movies, and other holiday cheer abound. Another day of trains chugs into the Museum’s Model Room on Saturday, Dec. 17, as the Train Collectors Association Atlantic Division, a national organization of model railroad enthusiasts dedicated to collecting, preserving, and operating model trains, displays and operates one of its many layouts and answers questions
