Amy Gowder to lead GE Aviation’s Military Systems Operation


Amy Gowder has been named president and CEO, Military Systems Operation, for GE Aviation, effective May 9.

In this role, Gowder will be responsible for GE Aviation’s Military Systems Operation portfolio, which includes combat and trainer engines, rotorcraft and turboprop engines, mobility engines, and marine gas turbines, as well as services, sales, and customer support. She will report to GE Aviation President and CEO John Slattery.

“Amy has strong familiarity with GE engines and culture, having served as partner, customer and supplier at various stages in her career,” said Slattery. “She will bring deep experience in improving quality and delivery to enable our success in the military business. Gowder joins GE from Aerojet Rocketdyne, where she served as Chief Operating Officer, responsible for engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and other functions. Previously, Gowder worked for Lockheed Martin in various leadership roles including operations, supply chain, and finance, as well profit & loss (P&L) portfolio roles, driving growth. 

Tony Mathis, GE Edison Works President and CEO, will remain the leader of GE’s advanced military programs, reporting directly to Larry Culp, GE Chairman and CEO. GE Edison Works is dedicated to the research, development, and production of advanced military solutions and has full responsibility for strategy, innovation, and execution of advanced programs.

GE Aviation’s defense portfolio includes more than 26,000 engines in service today with the U.S. military and allied forces, as well as maintenance, materials, and repair services to enhance fleet readiness.
