BAE Systems has been contracted to provide AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) for a Foreign Military Sales customer’s fleet of AH-64 Apaches. The cost of the contract has been revealed to be worth $22 million.

BAE Systems AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning System provides advanced missile warning and hostile fire detection for rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft. The system uses electro-optic missile sensors (EOMS) paired with an electronic control unit (ECU) to quickly respond to current and evolving threats in any situation. Designed to automatically detect a wide range of missile and hostile fire threats, CMWS gives the pilot and aircrew the confidence to complete the mission.

The most recently developed, third-generation CMWS technology integrates hostile fire indication with missile warning into a single system. This enables high performance in complex missile, small arms, and rocket-propelled grenade scenarios. Recent Juliet software updates provide Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM) interfaces and aircraft survivability equipment bus controller functionality. This enables decluttered and combined cockpit interfaces including the angle of arrival and weapon steering cues.

The CMWS will include the company’s new Gen3X electronic control unit with updated components to provide quicker processing capabilities.

“Our Common Missile Warning System is a tried-and-true, electronic warfare system that protects and their crews in the most complex battlespaces,” BAE Systems official Chris Austin cited in a press release.

BAE Systems has not provided specific information about the foreign customer that will receive the new CMWS units.
