Bombardier agrees leased engine pool and maintenance with Rolls-Royce

Bombardier is aiming to cut Global aircraft operators’ costs and downtime by setting up leased BR710 engine pools with Rolls-Royce at locations in the US, Europe and Asia.

The new service, covering Global Express, Global Express XRS, Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft, will offer operators all post-lease maintenance on location. Rolls-Royce will expand its lease pool locations to Bombardier service centres, enabling customers of Global aircraft powered by BR710 engines to lease replacement units when engines undergo service, maximising aircraft flight hours.

The programme will launch at Bombardier’s Wichita, Tucson and Hartford service centres. It will then soon be extended to facilities in Berlin, Biggin Hill, UK and Singapore. Global aircraft operators will benefit from the flexibility and ease of having all engine maintenance needs in one location, according to the OEM. The arrangement is also said to ensure faster turnaround time and eliminate lease engine shipping costs.

Bombardier’s Jean-Christophe Gallagher, executive vice president, Services and Support, and Corporate Strategy, said: “Bombardier continues to drive value for its customers through this agreement, which underscores our continued investment in aftermarket infrastructure.

“Aircraft operators will also benefit from the unmatched expertise and proficiency offered by both Bombardier and Rolls-Royce technicians, delivering the service experience customers demand and deserve.”

Rolls-Royce’s Andy Robinson, senior vice president Customers & Services – Business Aviation, added: “The expansion of our lease engine pool locations to selected Bombardier authorised service centres ensures quick turn-around times and better accessibility for our BR710 customers, further strengthening our global services network.”

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Rolls-Royce delivered its 100th Pearl 15 engine to Bombardier in Montreal, Canada. Developed and built in Dahlewitz near Berlin, the engine powers Bombardier’s latest business jets, the Global 5500 and Global 6500.

Paul Sislian, the aircraft OEM’s executive vice president, Operations and Operational Excellence, thanked the Rolls-Royce teams. “This milestone delivery signals the success of the Global 5500 and Global 6500 business jets since their entry into service. The Pearl 15 engine contributes to providing our customers with an outstanding flight experience and a smooth ride.”
