CAAWC to conduct Helicopter Insertion course near Baker Island

Members of the Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre (CAAWC) will conduct the Helicopter Insertion Master (HIM) course between Nov. 28-30, 2022, near Baker Island, 8 Wing Trenton.

A CH-146 Griffon helicopter will be operating low level during the following dates:

  • On Nov. 28, between 10:30 A.M. and 5 P.M., military personnel will be conducting rappelling from approximately 80 feet above ground level, via a CH-146 Griffon helicopter, on Baker Island, at 8 Wing Trenton.
  • On Nov. 29, between 9:30 A.M. and 5 P.M., military personnel will be conducting low hover insertion / extraction from approximately 2-4 feet above ground level, via a CH-146 Griffon helicopter, on Baker Island.
  • On Nov. 30, between 9:30 A.M. and 5 P.M., military personnel will be conducting helo-casting from approximately 5-10 feet above ground level, via a CH-146 Griffon helicopter, into the Bay of Quinte (adjacent to Baker Island). During the helo-casting CAAWC will control local boat traffic.

The HIM course enables the Canadian Armed Forces to dispatch military personnel and equipment from towers and helicopters via rappelling, low hover insertion / extraction techniques, and during helo-casting operations.

Royal Canadian Air Force aircrew adhere to strict rules and regulations at all times to ensure safety. Aircraft flight paths are chosen to avoid populated areas to the greatest extent possible.
