France Air Expo, the only dedicated General Aviation exhibition in France, will take place on 3 – 5 June 2021, at Lyon-Bron airport. One of Europe’s leading General Aviation exhibitions, this year’s event will be hosted at Lyon-Bron airport in collaboration with organisers Adone Events. The location represents a strategic choice as Lyon-Bron is a preferred destination for aviation enthusiasts, and is close to a number of large cities, some of which are just a 90-minute flight away by single-engine aircraft. The proximity of countries such as Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg is expected to draw international, as well as national, visitors.
The 1,820-metre runway makes it possible for numerous aircraft types to land without weight restrictions and is anticipated to attract a wide range of aircraft giving heavier, as well as the light aircraft, easy access to the show. The airport layout also supports the event with ample parking for visitors and an exhibition and static display located a few metres from the FBO (Fixed-base operator).
“We were warmly welcomed by Pierre Marnotte, director of Lyon-Bron airport, and his team, who share the same passion and commitment as us for setting up a great event in 2021,” enthused Didier Mary, the event organiser. The hosting at Lyon-Bron has already created a strong partnership between the airport and the organisers, with both sharing the ambition of successfully promoting the event and positioning Lyon-Bron as one of France’s preferred airports for private aviation.
An exhibition for the aviation of the future
General Aviation has always been, like Formula 1 in the automotive sector, the laboratory for the creation and development of technological advances which are then adapted and adopted by civil aviation. Many manufacturers are strengthening their focus on technology supporting greener aviation, and at this year’s event an area dedicated to electric and hybrid propulsion advancements will showcase general aviation’s contribution in this field. Sustainability will also be represented by a number of exhibitors displaying technological innovations promoting the ecological transition of the general aviation sector.
“The development and incorporation of sustainable resources is a major component of the aviation sector, so we are proud to showcase the concepts originating from the GA market at the June 2021 event,” adds Mary.
The next generation of aviators visiting the show will be acknowledged, with the Greater Lyon Aviation initiation certificates (BIA) being awarded to nearly 1,000 young pilots. This year’s event will also welcome an expanded section dedicated to training for careers in aviation.
Organised in partnership with a number of key general aviation institutions including AOPA France, the FFA (French Aeronautical Federation), FFPLUM and many more, France Air Expo brings together the leading players to offer visitors the latest industrial innovations. The exhibition is primarily aimed at attracting owners, pilots, flying clubs, enthusiasts, and professionals from the world of general aviation. Major aircraft and equipment manufacturers are expected to participate with Cessna, Beechcraft, Embraer, Pilatus, Tecnam, Bell, Robinson, Bose, Garmin, Jeppesen, and many more having showcased their products and services to buyers from all over Europe at France Air Expo.
Lyon is France’s second-largest city and with Greater Lyon represents one of the largest conurbations. It has two airports and a high-speed train service less than ten minutes from the city centre. A shuttle service between the station and Lyon airports is scheduled to run during the Expo. Lyon’s hotel capacity is substantial, and the city’s reputation for gastronomy is expected to attract many pilots and enthusiasts.
