Rotterdam-based storage, processing and logistics of renewable energy products company Koole Tankstorage Bootlek has announced its plan to expand Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production from 200,000 tons to 650,000 tons through construction of new unit.
“We have successfully been distilling SAF with our current unit for three years. We are increasing our production from just under 200,000 tons to about 650,000 tons of feedstock per year. A new milestone for Koole and a great step forwards towards sustainable aviation,” said Michiel Flier, business unit director, Koole Terminals.
Construction on the expansion of the unit has already begun and will be operational in early 2025.
“The main driver for us, of course, is the mandate from the EU for blending bio jet fuel into regular jet fuel. By 2030, 6% bio jet fuel must be blended into jetfuel. Right now, installations are being built all over the world to meet that demand.”
“We already have the facilities, knowledge and experience. Our new unit will be operational in early 2025, so we can also scale up quickly.
Koole Tankstorage Botlek produces SAF from hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
Koole Tankstorage Botlek is located at heart of Rotterdam harbour. The terminal houses Petrochemical Industrial Distillation and specializes in the storage, processing and logistics of renewable energy products.
The terminal handles chemicals, mineral oil products, acids, biofuels and base oils while offering blending, heating, caustic washing, decolorization, toll-distillation, client pumpovers, board-to-board, truck and rail car handling services.
