LanzaTech UK, a subsidiary of LanzaTech Global, announced that it has been granted permission to setup a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility on a former-industrial site at Crown Wharf.
Construction of the facility is due to commence in winter 2024 and production is scheduled to begin in 2026. Once in operation, the proposed alcohol-to-jet facility in Port Talbot would produce about 100m litres of SAF per annum, around 10% of the sustainable aviation fuel that the UK plans to use by 2030.
However, the company awaits legislation, investment and offtake agreements to move forward to a final investment decision.
The application for the facility received a unanimous vote for approval by Neath Port Talbot Council’s Planning Committee. Neath Port Talbot is a county borough in the south-west of Wales.
