Leonardo AW109 Trekker to begin offshore work

Elilombarda has won a contract to supply two Leonardo AW109 Trekkers to ENI, the Italian multinational oil-and-gas company, to support oil rigs in the Adriatic and Sicilian seas.

The contract starts on April 1, 2022 and will last five years. The Trekkers will be based in Ravenna and Gela, Sicily, close to ENI’s refineries.

The helicopters are configured for six passengers, but can be quickly converted with an emergency medical services kit for medevacs.

Elilombarda is one of the oldest Italian helicopter companies, based in Calcinate del Pesce, Varese. It takes the contract over from Babcock MCS Italia, which used two Leonardo AW109SPs.

The new Trekkers are believed to be the first in the world to be used in the offshore the oil-and-gas market, and are among the first to be operated in Italy. The first Italian AW109 Trekker was delivered to HoverFly for VIP and executive transport duties.
