The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has launched a website to help the victims of Hurricane Ian which hit Florida last month.
The website features the NBAA’s Humanitarian Emergency Response Operator (HERO) database, which identifies aircraft, pilots and company assets that could be used to support emergency response efforts, as well as other resources.
The category four hurricane was the deadliest hurricane to strike Florida in almost 90 years, also causing widespread damage in Cuba and South Carolina. At least 106 people were killed and around 40,600 displaced.
“NBAA and its members are mobilising with Floridians to respond to the challenges caused by Hurricane Ian,” said Ed Bolen, CEO and president, NBAA. “The ability of business aviation to provide humanitarian assistance in times of crisis is a hallmark of our industry, and our association is coordinating with government and nonprofit organisations on guidance for relief assistance.”
Bolen encouraged operators to register for the HERO database to support relief efforts.
The NBAA’s annual Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, will go ahead as planned on October 18th as the centre and airport were not damaged by the storm.
Additional relief efforts will be underway during NBAA-BACE, including the NBAA YoPro Networking Reception and Helpy Hour, where young business aviation professionals work together to provide relief packages to local charities.
Operators and aviation personnel can register to volunteer on the website.
