The Norwegian Air Ambulance Foundation brings together leading experts and professionals within the helicopter emergency medical service in Europe for the exchange of knowledge and cooperation.
Oslo HEMS Conference 2023 will be held at Soria Moria Hotel in Oslo from Dec. 4 to 6.
International experts
More than 30 leading experts from the HEMS community will highlight challenges and opportunities in prehospital critical care, offering solutions that can improve European air ambulance services. Here are three of them:
Dr. Malcolm Russel is an anesthetist and has a background in the British special forces with more than 25 years of experience as a helicopter physician. He is one of the foremost experts in urban search-and-rescue (USAR), which is used especially during earthquakes and other similar incidents.
In recent years, he has been deployed to disaster events in New Zealand, Japan, Nepal, Turkey and Malawi.
Dr. Dinis Dos Reis Miranda is an anesthesiologist and intensive care medicine specialist serving as the head of the ECPR program (use of a cardiopulmonary machine during cardiac arrest) at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. At this center, they have an in-hospital ECPR team with a 24/7 response time of five minutes.
He also contributes as a physician to the national Dutch medical helicopter service, where he initiated a large, randomized study of prehospital ECPR performed by the crew of the medical helicopter. This procedure was introduced into the service approx. a year ago.
Dr. Hanne Rikstad Iversen is an anesthetist at the emergency department at Hammerfest Hospital and as a flight physician at the 330 Squadron SAR helicopter base in Banak.
She holds extensive experience with extreme climatic and rural challenges. Throughout her career, she has worked to improve teamwork at the hospital, raise the competence of the ambulance services as well as increase the quality of the medical dispatch center. She is also a certified facilitator for the formalized trauma team training program.
Medical drone
Some of the latest research and technological advances that have been made within the air ambulance service will be presented and discussed.
Among other things, a model of what might be the medical drone of the future will be unveiled for the first time. Airbus and Norwegian Air Ambulance are collaborating closely on the development of this drone, exploring the potential impact of electric medical drones in the pre-hospital health services.
Medical cockpit of the future and helicopter demo
Workshops and interactive sessions give participants the opportunity to exchange experiences and learn from the best in the field. One of the topics focuses on how to reach patients off the beaten track and in locations unsuitable for helicopter landings.
Participants will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the full-scale model of the medical helicopter cabin of the future. Additionally, our helicopter dedicated to research and development will offer a demonstration during the event.
