The Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) operates eight Leonardo AW159 helicopters as the most modern element of its airborne ASW/ASuW capability.

Under a program launched earlier this year, Leonardo is now upgrading the helicopters’ technology to ensure it remains the premier ASW/ASuW helicopter platform into the future.

The upgrade will permit the RoKN to improve operational communication and enhance interoperability between RoK and its allies.

“This modification ensures the RoKN AW159 fleet continue to maintain its role as the ‘tip of the spear’ for RoKN ASW operations,” stated Rosie Tyrrell, program manager at Leonardo Helicopters (UK).

Leonardo has a technical support team permanently based alongside the RoKN in Republic of Korea, who will work in conjunction with the RoKN to upgrade all eight helicopters in Korea.
