Three killed in mid-air collision during firefighting operation

Two CAL-FIRE firefighters and a pilot were killed Sunday when their Bell 407 owned by Air Shasta collided with a Siller Helicopters S-64 while fighting the Broadway fire near Cabazon in Riverside County California.

While details of the crash are still under investigation, the two helicopters collided at approximately 5pm on Sunday while fighting the fire that had spread from a nearby structure fire in the area. The Siller S-64 was able to land safely after the incident, but the Bell 407 crashed to the ground after the initial incident, causing all on board to be lost.

The three victims of the crash were Division Chief Josh Bischof, Captain Tim Rodriguez, and Air Shasta pilot Tony Sousa. Our thoughts go out to those lost, their agency and the companies involved in the accident.
