Danish energy transition solution provider Topsoe said that it has signed an agreement with Spanish Cepsa and Bio-Oils Energy to supply its HydroFlex technology for the production of biofuels at Huelva plant.

Danish energy transition solution provider Topsoe said that it has signed an agreement with Spanish Cepsa and Bio-Oils Energy to supply its HydroFlex technology for the production of biofuels at Huelva plant.

The plant, located in Huelva, will produce 500,000 tonnes of biofuels including RD and SAF.

The new 2G biofuels plant will form the second largest renewable fuel complex in Europe and increase Cepsa’s total biofuel production capacity to 1m tons per annum.

The construction on the plant began in February earlier this year and is scheduled to begin production in 2026.

“We are excited to have been selected as the technology provider for this important project. The demand for SAF and renewable diesel is there, but supply is still lagging behind. Cepsa delivers a meaningful contribution to decarbonising the transportation sector, and we’re proud to be working with them,” said Elena Scaltritti, Chief Commercial Officer, Topsoe.

Topsoe’s HydroFlex technology can convert fats, oils and greases into drop-in renewable jet and diesel that meet all globally accepted specifications for these fuels. The technology can be deployed in both grassroots units and revamps for co-processing or fully renewable applications.
