SPAES GmbH & Co. KG has carried out a supplemental type certificate (STC) for the integration of a variable medical equipment rack in an Airbus H155 for an air medical customer.

The required properties for the rescue operations were determined in cooperation with the customer’s medical department.
Through several model demonstrations for the customer, the design was gradually optimized and adapted to the operational requirements.
Thereafter, the required parts were manufactured and the materials and components were procured.
After the manufacturing process, the components were surface-treated for easier cleaning and installed in the customer’s own part 145 maintenance organization.

“With the new medical rack, the medical devices in the helicopter can be optimally arranged to provide patients with the best possible service,” said Joachim Schanz, managing director at SPAES.
The medical rack can be used in all positions in the passenger compartment, allowing a variable use in rescue operation.
The medical rack received a European Aviation Safety Agency STC in SPAES’ part 21J design organisation.
Since its use in the Airbus H155 helicopter, the medical rack has proven itself in many rescue operations.
